Lot of people get confused on these set of scriptures. So, I will share some of these verses with you in hopes to give you a better understanding.
We must always remember God does all thing for our good.
God is trying to set your heart or in other words preparing and helping you to make an inform decision on your eternal life. These are thing today that the world does not value anymore and puts us at the state we are in today.
I will start with 1 John.
1 John 2:15-17 (NASB)
Do Not Love the World
15 Do not love (A)the world nor the things in the world. (B)If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, (C)the lust of the flesh and (D)the lust of the eyes and (E)the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 (F)The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who (G)does the will of God lives forever.
There are key words in these verses that help to steer you in all thing that goes against God’s word. The lust of the flesh is due to what the heart wants, and the eyes see. To understand this, I will bring you back to the beginning.
In Genesis the serpent who was craftier than all the animals in the field spoke to Eve in the garden and asked her about the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
The reason I am going here is to make a key point on how important all scripture is for life. There’s so many church’s today that say the Old Testaments are no longer relevant. This is very wrong the bible reproofs itself. If you want to prove or validate the New Testament you will need to revert back to the Old testament and vice versa. The old testament justifies the new.
Back to the topic at hand, what does it means to love not the thing of this world. Here is what scripture tells us this means. We must put aside all thing that will lead us away from a righteous loving God, that means all things. Please don’t misunderstand this I am not saying you can buy thing you like all want but when your drive is to work on getting those things then you are being misled. I will share with from God’s word on what I just wrote, which also happen to be some of my favorites.
James 4:4 ESV
You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
Titus 2:11-12 ESV
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
Colossians 3:2 ESV
Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
Romans 12:2 ESV
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 1:20 ESV
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
John 8:12 ESV
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
There are so many other verses that e can problem apply here but I would not want to take verses out of content like many people do. Please understand that. these verses do not condemn you but reproofs you back to the creator to which we would have no part if it wasn't for Jesus Christ our Lord and savior.
Hope that this blesses you as it has when God shared it with me in is word.
Peace and Blessing to all.
I love Romans 12:2 for it speaks of a transformation and renewed mind. This is very important to me because that is what continues in me as I grow with our Tri Union God!! The Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit!!
